The Montauk Project 2K16 (TMP 2K16)

We've been working with a very talented film maker over the last month on a documentary called The Montauk Project 2K16 about 'The Montauk Project' (also the name of a band) that local 'statesmen' have coaxed the Army Corps of Engineers to move ahead with.  They have essentially ripped up about a mile of dunes and beach next to town in Montauk in hopes of staving off the next Hurricane Sandy by replacing the sand with supersacks of ?? an engineered medium we assume and then covering those with a few feet of beach sand.

Already one Nor'easter last weekend with winds of only 35-40mph washed away $500kish of sand covering those bags, and while I am agnostic about the whole thing, when has man ever truly tamed nature without at least a few dire consequences?  It's another shovel-ready project championed by the hotel owners who either inherited or bought hotels along the beach (built ingeniously in the 60s and 70s 5 feet from the high tide mark) to enjoy the beach and charge a premium to their guests for that amenity.  Now their guests will most likely be in for an eyesore.

Anyhow, we are filming the beach from overhead on a weekly basis to document the change that happens over time, especially with more big Winter storms likely ahead soon.  We are also using special software to create these orthomosaic surveys and digital surface maps on a regular basis in hopes that the scientific community can make good use of them.  We can do the same for you and NDVI maps of crops as well for farmers.
