Drones Can Rescue Drowning Swimmers Faster Than Lifeguards

In Germany, the national lifeguard association is working with a local company, Microdrones, to develop a drone specifically for water rescues. The drone could potentially reach a drowning person faster than a lifeguard. The quadcopter drone has a camera that streams live video back to the drone operator and an integrated GPS system.  Once it spots a swimmer in distress, a lifeguard on shore activates the drone. The drone flies out to the swimmer and drops a flotation device ensuring the swimmer has some help before the human lifeguard arrives.
